“Teaching Speaking to Young Learners”
Name : Iin Inayatillah
Class : 2A
NIM : 2109180048
1. Based on the theories you have learnt about teaching speaking to young learners, what is your firstly consideration on teaching them?
My first consideration is I have to overcome the material and pronunciation well and be creative, so they will be fun and interested in learning.
2. Why can speaking be integrated with listening activities?
There is no point in people talking when no one is listening. It is impossible for people to listen if no one is speaking. The speaker can give the listener’s response after he gets a response from the listener. The listener can give on appropriate response if he understands the message conveyed by the speaker.
3. From the practices of teaching speaking to young learners, choose one of them and please tell me about the procedures detail!
Animation
The teacher tells a story while showing them puppet which drawn by the teacher or printed out, then please give a stick, so the teacher could hold it. The puppet must be in accordance with the story, then the story also must be according to their age, for example the story of Rabbit and Turtle for YLs who are seven years old or first grade of primary school. The teacher must tell the story interestingly, like giving expression, eyes contact, body language, etc. So, the YLs will give attention and listen to the teacher carefully. After telling story, teacher repeat some expression from the story, then ask YLs to repeat what the teacher say. The art of animation involves giving life and soul to lifeless materials. Presenting language to YLs through a puppet, having conversations with it and presenting dialogues are some of the most effective ways to teach English.
